M&A: Do you know the total you’re going to be billed?
Lauren: So far, I see $70,000 in medical bills; the hospital stay and the anesthesiologist was the lion’s share of that. I haven’t received a bill for the surgery, so I suspect that’s still coming. I would imagine that’s not going be cheap. I’m sure a portion of the doctor’s bill will be my responsibility. At this point, I am responsible for $6,000. It’s not going to break me. But with Accident insurance, I probably could have recouped about $4,300.
M&A: Do you have any additional recovery costs not currently covered by insurance?
Lauren: Actually, no. But, in the past, when I’ve had physical therapy, I’ve had a copay. I will have months of physical therapy, and it’s all covered, so I can’t complain.
M&A: That’s interesting. If you did have any recovery costs, though, Accident insurance would have paid for them as well. In addition to the benefits, how do you think Accident insurance would have helped you get through this ordeal?
Lauren: If I didn’t have money in the bank, and particularly if I were just starting out with limited savings, I might have been stressed during my hospital stay. If you don’t have emergency savings, it would be a good stress reliever to know that you’ve got cash benefits coming from your Accident insurance.
M&A: Do you think you might buy Accident insurance based on your experience? Would you recommend it for others?
Lauren: It’s something I’m looking at. I would recommend it, yes, especially to young people who do a lot of things like skiing and football on the weekends. It would also be great for young people with families. The cost seems to be worth it.
